If you’re one of the few people excited for an Avatar sequel or 5, I gift you this behind-the-scenes flick of Zoe Saldana, Sam Worthington, Kate Winslet and Cliff Curtis floating amid millions of tiny balls in a 900,000 gallon tank. You’re welcome.
Avatar’s Twitter shared the image, which has most certainly incited more questions than answers.
“Zoe Saldana, Sam Worthington, Kate Winslet, and Cliff Curtis taking a break from underwater performance capture for a quick photo!” reads the caption.
“Fun fact: Much of the performance capture took place in this 900,000 gallon tank, built specifically for the sequels.”
Try to decipher what in Pandora’s name is going on:
From the set of the sequels: @ZoeSaldana, Sam Worthington, Kate Winslet, and Cliff Curtis taking a break from underwater performance capture for a quick photo!

Like, the picture is fun and all, but I’m more curious about these floating balls and kid’s pool noodles.
Normal people would look at this and go, ‘hey, that’s a fun behind-the scenes flick’, continue scrolling and forget about the image in 5 minutes. But I am abnormal, so here are the questions I’ve been left with:
- Obviously, what’s the with balls?
- Have they accidentally swallowed a ball?
- How did said swallowed ball travel through the digestive system?
- If the cast have spent the majority of their time in the water, do they have the pruniest fingers of all time? Literally months of pruney, pruney fingers and toes?
- Are spirits high?
Here’s the projected release dates.
- Avatar 2 – December 17, 2021
- Avatar 3 – December 22, 2023
- Avatar 4 – December 19, 2025
- Avatar 5 – December 17, 2027
Oh, boy.
