According to 9 News, the third body was found in a burnt-out house 40km north of Taree this afternoon. The home belongs to a woman aged 63, but police have said they require a post-mortem examination to confirm the person’s identity and cause of death.

Another victim of the bushfires was Vivian Chaplain, a 69-year-old woman who was sent to hospital after suffering severe burns while trying to save her home and pets from the blaze in Wytaliba near Coffs Harbour.

The third victim was George Knowles, who was found dead inside his car near Glen Innes.

The fires still raging near Port Macquarie and Forster are continuing to be a serious threat to lives and homes, while three other serious fires have thankfully been downgraded to Watch and Act.

19 firefighters have been injured in the fires, as well as 16 members of the public.
