Soak Up The Last Dregs Of Summer With These Sun-Drenched Activities

We’re once again in the last week of summer, and because the warm weather always seems to abandon us as quickly as it arrives, we thought it’d be nice to give you some ideas to inspire you to get out there and soak up the last of the sun.

So before we descend into another few months of rain, staying inside with movies, and refusing to take off your tracky pants, make time to get out to these events and load up on that (Vitamin) D.

Moonlight Cinema

If you’re partial to catching a film outside on a big screen on a beanbag, then the various Moonlight Cinemas around the country are perfect for you cinephiles.

Cinemas have popped up for summer in SydneyMelbourneAdelaide, and Perth, and have daily screenings of new flicks as well as some classics, including Spiceworld, and a Grease singalong.

Some cinemas also encourage you to bring along your best pet mate, so nobody gets left behind on date night.

Catch A Game Of Footy At Princes Park

Footy’s back, babey! The AFLW season is in full swing and the best part is that the games are either afternoon or evening clashes. Oh, and they’re mostly free!

Head down to the iconic Princes Park in North Carlton to check out the women going head to head in the nation’s greatest game (do not fight me on this) and if you manage to catch a Carlton Blues home game, you might just get to see Tayla Harris kicking someone’s head clean off.

The best part about the footy being back is that AFLW games tend to have a kick to kick after the final siren so bring a ball with you to get some quality shots at goal in after the game’s over.

Watch A Gig With The Wild Animals

Every summer, Taronga Zoo and Melbourne Zoo host twilight gigs within the zoos’ grounds. Spend the evening watching as all the animals head off to bed and the music comes alive (don’t worry, they keep everything far enough away so it doesn’t mess with the animals’ beauty sleep).

This year’s lineup includes Cut CopyGrizzly BearCloud ControlJulia JacklinThe PreaturesMount Kimbie and a whole bunch more.

Get Weird At The Fringe

Adelaide may be the city of churches but I can assure you that some sinful things go down every year at Adelaide Fringe. Prepare to overindulge on some fine arty delicacies – which is exactly what summer is for, right? Opening on Feb 16, the fringe showcases performing arts, comedy, and probably my favourite event on the bill; a Crap Music Rave Party.

Hit Up A Pop-Up Like No Other

Ever wanted to go to a pop-up that’s so well-themed that each room is a different world? Dan Murphy‘s are throwing a belter of a party in Sydney’s Chippendale this summer that does that.

Each room in the abode explores a different spirit; there’s a fully-fledged tequila bar, one room that pairs food to whatever drink you choose, and an ‘at-home bartender’ room where you can learn the tricks of the trade at either the Tiki Bar or the 1950’s Martini Bar – if you think you’re more of a James Bond than a Dr Jacoby.

Flex Mami will be spinning tracks all night to keep the house party pumping, and you can grab a ticket over HERE.
