Well would you look at that, the biggest game in the world right now is about to get a visitor from the biggest movie in the world right now. For a limited time, Avengers: Infinity War villain Thanos will be hanging out in Battle Royale game, Fortnite.
Announced in a tweet this morning, Epic Games will be introducing a new game mode called Infinity Gauntlet Limited Time Mashup, which, while a mouthful to say, sounds like a pretty fun time. Players will scramble to find the Infinity Gauntlet somewhere on the map which will turn them into Thanos when equiped, granting them a huge power boost.
It’s not clear whether the gauntlet will placed somewhere different each time, but I would assume it’s a random deal.
As it turns out, Joe and Anthony Russo – the directors of Infinity War – are massive Fortnite fans and would even sneak in matches during the editing of the film. Eventually, the pair got a hold of Epic’s creative director Donald Mustard and pitched the idea.
“Out of the blue, I get this call from Joe. And after a bit of geeking out over each other’s work, we start brainstorming these crazy ideas,” Mustard told Entertainment Weekly. “It was really important that whatever we did, it had to be super authentic to both Fortnite and the Avengers: Infinity War, and something that fans of both would be excited about.”
Hell yeah. The new mode will be free to play from tomorrow until… Well, we don’t know how long it’s sticking around for, so maybe jump on at some point within the next few days if you’re keen to give it a whirl.
