Nintendo has hit another home run with an exclusive title, with its recently released Super Smash Bros. Ultimate becoming the fastest-selling Nintendo console game of all time in Australia and New Zealand.
According to a press release from the company, Smash Ultimate has hit launch sales which are more than 80 per cent higher than Super Mario Odyssey. While Nintendo doesn’t provide the numbers explicitly, it does point out that Odyssey has sold more than 12 million units, so if we apply some quick maths, we’re looking at upwards of 21 million copies, which is absolutely huge, particularly given it only came out a little under two weeks ago.
As well as retail sales, Smash Ultimate has also become the fastest selling title ever on the Nintendo eShop. “We are thrilled that Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is now both the fastest-selling game in the series and our fastest-selling home console game in Australia and New Zealand,” managing director of Nintendo Australia, Kamon Yoshimura, said in the press release.
“Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is the biggest Super Smash Bros. ever, and we look forward to bringing exciting experiences to players in 2019 with new games in the Animal Crossing and Pokémon series, alongside Yoshi’s Crafted World, Fire Emblem: Three Houses, and more.”
It’s been another huge year for Nintendo and it looks like there’s absolutely no plans to slow down in 2019.
