If you’re a fan of eSports and anything created by Dan Harmon, you’re in for a real bloody treat, ‘cos old mate is making a brand new series about just that.
YIEEWWW.
The Community and Rick and Morty creator will be working with YouTubers, Game Grumps, to bring the sitcom to life. It will follow 5 gamers who want to break into the bustling competitive gaming scene as a new team and the challenges they’ll face in doing so. Creators Jesse Cox and Michele Morrow will star in the series, along with the Game Grumps themselves.
The yet to be titled show will have 6 episodes at 30 minutes each in length and will be shown exclusively on YouTube’s premiums service, YouTube Red. It’s expected to air in 2017 and will be produced by Harmon, Game Grump Arin Hanson and others.
It’s another example eSports creeping further into the mainstream eye, which, if you ask us, is really fucking cool. And if you’re already on board with eSports in general, the creators want you to know it’s not going to be some sellout bullshit that makes obvious references to sponsors.
“Our goal is to make a show that isn’t pandering and isn’t… You guys know the YouTubes,” said Cox. “This is going to be a very true look at the eSports industry,” continued Morrow. You can suss the video announcement below.
