Samsung Announce The Note 10, A Phone With A Pen You Can Wave Around Like A Wand

Samsung announced its new range of smartphones early this morning, and as you’d expect, the company’s taking aim squarely at Apple, which is expected to announce its new iPhone range in September. Along from the usual smartphone flair, the Note 10 will also allow the new S Pen to control it like a goddamn magic wand.

The announcement was made at an event in New York, showing off all aspects of the new device, including its edge-to-edge display which is almost completely bezel-less.

“Every element of the Galaxy Note10 was designed to help users achieve more,” Samsung mobile head, DJ Koh, said. “Whether they’re finishing a big project for work, capturing and editing a video, or playing their favourite mobile game, the Galaxy Note10 will help them do it faster and better.”

As most phones are these days, the Note 10 will be available in a Plus size as well as a standard one. You’re looking at either a 6.3-inch display or a huge 6.8-inch display if bigger is more your speed. Both models still sport the hole-punch front-facing camera, but this time it’s moved to the centre-top rather than the top-right.

Both AMOLED displays are HDR10+ certified and have Dynamic Tone Mapping, which improves things like the colour and brightness of images and video.

In terms of photography, you’re looking at a 10MP forward-facing camera and a triple rear camera system featuring a 16MP ultra-wide lens, a 12MP telephoto lens, and a 12MP wide-angle lens. The 10 Plus includes an extra DepthVision VGA lens.

The devices also include a Live Focus feature, which lets you adjust the depth-of-field in real-time. And if you like shooting video on your phone, it has a Zoom-In Mic feature which amplifies the audio in the video frame while reducing everything else going on the background. Pretty kewl.

The new and improved S Pen is one of the Note 10’s best new tricks, with the ability to control the device via gestures. In other words, the Bluetooth-connected pen can be waved around like a fucking magic wand to control it. Unreal. It can also convert your handwriting to text if that’s something you’re into.

Both devices are capable of super-fast charging, meaning plugging it in via USB-C for just 30 minutes will allegedly give you a whole day’s worth of charge, which is certainly impressive.

The smaller option only comes in a 256GB storage size, but the Note 10 Plus can be bumped up to 512GB if you need. If you’re sold on all of this, pre-orders for the device open today, with shipping set for August 23. The standard will set you back $1,499, the Plus is $1,699, and the Plus 5G is $1,999.

If you’d prefer to get it on a plan, there’s a bunch you can choose from below. Here’s some for the Note 10 Plus.
