Facebook’s Been Trialling Its Own Wannabe Snapchat Killer On The Sly

Facebook is right to be concerned about Snapchat. The messaging app is rapidly encroaching on Facebook’s turf, and it’s wildly more popular among young users. Facebook has given developing its own alternative a red-hot go – remember Slingshot? – but it seems like they’ve been quietly rolling out another attempt.

They’re doing it via the wildly popular Stories format – which Instagram already nicked wholesale. In Poland today they’ve launched something called “Messenger Day”, which is basically Snapchat Stories, but delivered through Messenger.
looks mighty familiar tbh

Techcrunch reached out to Facebook to find out WTF the deal is here. They responded in typically Facebook fashion:
We know that people come to Messenger to share everyday moments with friends and family. In Poland we are running a small test of new ways for people to share those updates visually. We have nothing more to announce at this time.

Apparently it’s all the same deal as what we’ve come to expect from Snapchat: filters, free drawing, stickers, the works. The Snapchat face filters will probably find their own version in Facebook too, with Facebook acquisition of MSQRD.

Looks like basically every app will have a version of Stories at this rate.
