Victim Of Brisbane Bus Attack Revealed As 29-Year-Old Manmeet Alisher

The identity of a Brisbane bus driver who was killed in a horrific attack earlier today has been revealed as 29-year-old Manmeet Alisher.

Alisher, an Indian migrant, was a popular figure in the Brisbane Punjabi community. He was well-known as a musician and performed at many local events.

He was engaged to be married.

In light of the news, his social media pages have already been flooded with tributes and messages of utter disbelief.
Mourners are paying tribute to Alisher, with some laying flowers before a candlelit vigil.

Queensland Police Commissioner Ian Stewart has fronted the media about the attack, saying there is currently no evidence linking it to terrorism.

Stewart also downplayed fears the attack was racially motivated, saying “we do not believe there is any evidence at this stage linking this to a racial complaint or concern by either of the people involved.”

Eleven other people were injured in the attack, which took place at Moorooka in Brisbane’s southern suburbs.

A 48-year-old man is in custody regarding the attack, after he allegedly doused Alisher with a flammable liquid and set him alight.

We’ll update this story as more information comes to hand.
