Cult Skincare Brands To Get Amongst If Your Face Is Being A Little Bitch

We see our faces in the mirror every goddamn day, so it makes sense that we’re a lil’ precious about what we put on our skin. Anyone who’s grown up with skin issues – anything really, from eczema to oily skin, to pimples – is more than a little wary of which skincare they invest in.

There’s a few skincare brands that have really come through with some killer reviews of late. They’ve hit the market and quickly become cult, ride-or-die brands for loads of beauty aficionados.

If you’re looking to switch up your skincare, why not try one of these bebs.

DRUNK ELEPHANT

This Mecca-stocked skincare brand prides itself on featuring no “nasties” so they’ll suit any skin type. The range has been praised for its efficacy – the C-Firma Day Serum and T.L.C Framboos Glycolic Night Serum in particular get consistent rave reviews.

THE ORDINARY

It doesn’t get more back to basics than The Ordinary, one of Toronto-based company Deciem’s many brands. The premise of The Ordinary is this – hard-working products at a teeny price. Their offerings are simple and well-explained, and most come in at under $25. It’s essentially the brand to go to when you know exactly what ingredient you need to fix your skin, but don’t want to pay squillions for it.

TATCHA

Another skincare brand getting rave reviews for being suitable for sensitive skin types, Tatcha was founded in Japan by Victoria Tsai, who suffered from acute dermatitis and wanted a skincare range that used pure, proven ingredients. Their enzyme powder exfoliants are undoubtedly heroes of the range – gentle enough to use daily, and effective as hell.

HERBIVORE BOTANICALS

This Seattle company uses organic and high-quality ingredients to make their products. Part of the hype with this brand is the chic as hell packaging, but they continually get praise for how effective their products are. Big winners are their clay based masks and cleansing bars.

NIP + FAB

These guys are crazy-famous for one major reason – their exfoliating face pads are the SHIT. Gentle enough to use every day, they dissolve dead skin cells and clear out pores like no one’s biz. Part of the hype? The accessible price point – $29.95 for the OG version.

MARIO BADESCU

Like Nip + Fab, one of the reasons this New York brand is so popular is that it’s products don’t cost the Earth. The iconic Rosewater Facial Mist comes in at a cool $9, while the famous Drying Lotion (a literal miracle for pimples) will only set you back $24. Beyond these two well-hyped products are extensive ranges for pretty much every skin type and concern.

KATE SOMERVILLE

One of LA’s top facialists created this line, which is based around clinically tested skincare that’s facialist-level but can be used in your own home. It’s particularly well-loved by those suffering from acne or breakouts. ExfoliKate – the brand’s exfoliating treatment – is renowned for clearing up skin quick-smart, as is her line of cleansing products and pimple treatments.

LA ROCHE-POSAY

This French pharmacy brand is the go-to for many people dealing with tricky skin issues like rosacea and dermatitis. Their sensitive skin range is extensive and covers pretty much every issue you could deal with. Also big news in the beauty world? Their sunscreens – high SPF, but without the sticky, thick feel of many.
