The US state of Minnesota is currently considering legalising same-sex marriage. Enter “concerned” father, husband and self appointed upholder of all that is good and just, Mike Frey.
Unfortunately Mike never really gets a chance to get his argument off the ground, with the crux of his beef focusing on the fact that gay marriage will lead to gay sex. Aw bless Mike, but I’m pretty confident that’s not the typical linear chain of events in a gay relationship. Mike’s naivety aside, it’s his assertion on how AIDS is transmitted (and how it evolved by the sounds of it) that is truly mind boggling.
“When ejaculation occurs inside of a colon, it’s highly absorbent
material, the cells do not have a barrier for the sperm and those
enzymes to enter into the blood flow,” Frey said. “When the enzymes
enter into the blood flow, and a continued, prolonged environment of
that happens, these enzymes in the blood flow, it causes what we know as
AIDS.”
As the Huffington Post points out, Frey’s statement “is not only homophobic, it is also misleading.” With 34 million adults living with AIDS/HIV worldwide, it’s a health concern that doesn’t discriminate between gender or sexual orientation. So if Mike’s kids are listening, or the children of any other backward homophobes for that matter, the manner which Mike describes is one of many ways AIDS can be transmitted, not the way AIDS is transmitted.
So no, AIDS doesn’t just magically happen when two men have sex.

Same-sex marriage = Gay sex
Gay sex = AIDS
AIDS = Treatment
Treatment = Expense to the decent, hard working folks of Minnesota.
Mike Frey = Idiot
It must have been tough work for poor Mike, with all that talk about sodomy, vaginas, sperm and butts. Should we give him a break?
