Lover’s “A Dance For One” Lookbook

Lover’s Autumn Winter 2011 offering sees a shift away from the sweet and saccharine, delving into more daring directional pieces. The palette, based around nude hues, is injected with musk stick pinks and pleasant punches of orange.

A beige turtleneck poncho sounds like a monstrosity when worded so, however it is surprisingly welcomed by my eyes and does not make me want to gauge them out. Half Samurai warrior, half awesome, the look comprising slouchy black silk shirt and tailored trousers has inspired me to take up karate. An oversized camel coat also seems at odds with Lover’s overriding aesthetic (which seems to always be described as “ethereal”) but is another unexpected favourite.

Fans of Lover’s feminine, folk-y vibe won’t be disappointed, as A Dance For One also features the delicate lace renderings through which the brand has gained its repute. The 3/4 sleeve black lace Peter Pan collar dress made me shed a single, slow motion tear. Fuck-off flairs combined with amalgamations of velvet and paisley make for a collection that is decidedly ’70’s inspired, but in the good ’70’s way, not the ‘your parents using the word groovy and making you cringe’ kind of way.

Okay, I’m just going to say it. Heck, I’m going to declare it: Nick Briand and Susien Chong can do no wrong. Even that full-piece crochet-knit onesie should be so, so wrong, but for some reason, it is the exact opposite.
