IRL Zombie Shooter Coming To Sydney, Needs Your Money

The idea that psychologically stable adult human beings with high disposable incomes would pay hundreds of dollars to simulate the experience of being in an apocalyptic first person shooter about killing zombies is either a terrifying case study on how comfortable we’ve become with violence or the best goddamn idea a stoned four year old could ever come up with. We’re leaning towards the latter, and so, apparently, are thousands of Australians.

After breaking Pozible’s funding record by raising AU$243,000 last year, the braaaiiinnnnsss behind pioneering Australian events company IRL Shooter are now aiming to raise a cool million dollars from a total of 10,000 pledges to finance the running of what will be the first ever IRL first person shooter experience in Sydney.

The inaugural game was a massive success in Melbourne (where it was held in an abandoned warehouse, so Melbourne) and looks set to be just as successful when transplanted to the Harbour City.

The campaign, since going live at midnight last night,
has raised over AU$35,000 in just 12 hours, a new Australian record. Tickets start at just $175 for newbie players but upgrades for more generous donors who want to win at all costs include a “godmode” kit affording you 1 x M4 Assault Rifle 2 x Tactical Peripherals 2 x Sidearms and 1 x Pain Belt, which uses a light electric shock to simulate pain.

Dubbed Patient 0, the game revolves around immersive live action
environments, interactive storylines and features video game standards like
non-playable characters (NPCs), puzzle solving, zombie mobs and
information collecting. Players will be armed with just their brraaaiinnnnsss and laser tag-style assault rifles which log in-game statistics including hits, shots fired
and accuracy, while assorted Neighbours rejects will provide the target
practice.
