Instagram Reaches 150 Million Users, Set To Introduce Advertisements In App

Remember that time in The Social Network when Jesse Eisenberg is smug and all, “Facebook can’t have ads. Ads aren’t cool,” and then ten years later there are more ads for how to slim down in six easy steps than there are posts about your sister’s wedding, and a bunch of creepy additions to your side bar that show the exact product you were just browsing at an online store, cruelly tempting you in to submission? Yeah. Way to be uncool, Zuckerberg.

And you know how we so often retreat to instagram because it’s perhaps the sole relic of advertising-free social networking, reveling in the bliss that is the lack of commercial sell outs? Yeah – no more of that, amigos.

Instagram announced over the weekend that they officially reached 150 million users, which equates to approximately ten trillion obnoxious travel selfies, and to mark the momentous occasion of adding 20 million users since June this year and escalating rapidly since Facebook acquired Instagram last year, the prettily filtered social netwok reported to the Wall Street Journal to confirm that they will be monetizing the app soon, and will begin selling ads within the next year, The Verge reports.

Ugh :'(
