Gary Bigeni Taps Montana Cox For SS2012-13

Ever since Gary Bigeni came to the attention of Australian retail luminary Belinda Seper with his graduate collection in the early oughts, he has consistently demonstrated that his talents were worthy of the early hype. We first caught a glimpse of his breezy Spring/Summer 2012-13 collection “Fractured Appearance” at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia in May, but in the complete look book featuring successful Australia’s Next Top Model alumnae, the amazing Montana Cox, you get a much better appreciation of Bigeni’s eye for strong design.

Fluidity and femininity combine with the right amounts of boyishness in a range of wearable separates, smooth leather pieces, retro-informed graphic prints and detail (lattice work and halter necklines) and Bigeni’s signature drapery in silk jersey as well as clean, minimalist lines and tailoring. The use of colour is restrained, limited to sea blue, turquoise and orange that stands out amid a predominantly neutral canvas.

This is cool feminine fashion that isn’t for girls, it’s for tasteful women with money to spend on looking great. And there’s nothing wrong with that. It drops in stores this week.
