Buying a new perfume can be a really hard slog if you’re not sure exactly what you want. But a good place to start is with whatever experts are obsessing over. Enter the Fragrance Foundation‘s perfume awards, which are basically like the Oscars but for scents released that year.

There’s a bunch of categories but we’ve skipped over Best Marketing and so on to give you the heavy-hitters on the actual stuff-in-the-bottle front.
1. Fragrance Of The Year – Women’s Luxury
Described as a “contrasting scent that reveals a tempting dichotomy of playful, candy-like gleam on the outside and luscious flesh on the inside”, this sweet-yet-sexy scent took out the top gong for luxury fragrance in the women’s category.
2. Fragrance Of The Year – Men’s Luxury
This fresh/woody scent uses citrus notes and sandalwood, as well as vanilla to add depth.
3. Fragrance Of The Year – Women’s Prestige
This light floral scent mixes the uber-floral honeysuckle with liquorice-like davana and dewy moss. It’s like a summer downpour in a bottle.
4. Fragrance Of The Year – Men’s Prestige
A spicy men’s scent, Sauvage was inspired by desert twilight, and uses smoky vanilla absolute and woody ambroxan.
5. Fragrance Of The Year – Women’s Popular
Yep, Ariana Grande’s latest scent took out the Popular gong – the floral and fruity gourmand fragrance is VERY Ari but hey, if you like sweet perfumes, here’s the one for you.
6. Perfume Extraordinaire
You can only get this scent in the States right now, but goddamn I want it – notes of pink pepper, ambrette, violet, blonde woods and musk make this a sexy vintage/skin-like scent.
7. Fragrance Hall Of Fame
Another one that’s hard to get in Oz (although Amazon Australia has it, which is good news), Donna Karan’s iconic Cashmere Mist made the Hall Of Fame thanks to its longevity (it’s been around since 1994) and classic soft floral scent.
