Euro Mega-Chain Zara Bound For Australia

In some alternate universe there’s an army of well-heeled, on trend 16 to 45-year-olds dressed in smart basics, well-structured blazers, tastefully sequined evening wear and above average shoes. Hang on a sec. That’s not an alternate universe – it’s the rest of the FUCKING WORLD. Euro mega-brand Zara has taken it’s affordable, trend-driven ‘fast fashion’ to the masses (from Andorra to Tunisia to Qatar) but you can get ready Australia because it’s coming your way.

It’s just been announced by Zara’s parent company, Inditex, that the retailer is entering the Australian market with the first stores to open next year, giving them the type of global domination that only James Bond villains with a hook for a hand can usually dream of.

I won’t lie I’m not really a fan of mass produced trend-driven mega brands because they make a fuckload of money by pumping out inexpensive copies of other people’s designs, but I’m a cynical douchebag on a high horse who can’t even afford Sportsgirl so all I’ve got is pretentious integrity. Flash forward nine months and I’ll be eating my (seasonally relevant and reasonably priced) Zara hat.

Disclaimer: re: my initial statement about the rest of the world being well dressed I was being hyperbolic for effect. Everyone knows that Europeans are some of the worst dressed schleps on earth with an unfailing commitment to the bib and brace as ski apparel of choice and their heads are the place where minks go to die.

So, Zara Australia: your thoughts?
