This year marked the first time Dion Lee showed his aptly-named secondary line at Mercedes-Benz Australian Fashion Week, and though ‘Line II’ might initially suggest an offering subsidiary in name in nature, what was shown was first class in every way.
At the time, we were pretty enamoured with the collection’s “seemingly minimalist separates cut with trompe-l’œil twists. [With] denim shirts and leather jackets that appeared to be tied around the models’ waists but were actually part and parcel of the whole package, like sportswear obi belts.” We also wrote home about the “sleeves on the line’s signature shirting, which were cut open at the elbow and folded back in on themselves. Things were put down, flipped and reversed and at first it was like, ‘whut? But then it was like, yasss.’”
In other words, we were very much picking up what he was putting down: new ways to elevate and reinvent casual dressing .
