Christopher Esber Wins National Designer Award

Christopher Esber has been announced as this year’s winner of the National Designer Award at the L’Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival. The young designer will take home a cool business prize pack valued at $75,000.

Esber beat some stiff competition, with the finalists including thrice-nominated Above label, Magdalena Velevska, up and comer Michael Lo Sordo and fan favourite Lui Hon. The crowning ceremony (it was a trophy actually, but we do think a crown would have been fun) took place at Tiffany and Co. this morning. An actual breakfast at Tiffany’s. That’s right.

Recognising designers for not only their creative talents, but also their savvy business plans, makes this award the most prestigious for Australian emerging talent. Past winners include Dion Lee, Romance Was Born, Josh Goot and last year’s Song for the Mute, which we think puts Esber in pretty grand company.

Congrats Christopher Esber – we salute you!

Cue celebratory music now:

The finalist’s designs will remain on display during the festival at Tiffany and Co, Collins St, Melbourne.
