An Artist Doing A Bust Of Tone Reckons He’s Almost Too Pretty To Sculpt

Look. We’re not making any value judgments here. We’re just reporting the news. This is news that happened. It’s not up to us to say whether this news is hilarious. That would be rude, and we shan’t do it.
The news, in this case, is that sculptor Linda Klarfeld reckons Tony Abbott is almost too handsome to sculpt.

Klarfield has been commissioned by the city of Ballarat to make a gold bust of the former prime minister to join the other prime ministers in Prime Ministers’ Avenue in the botanic gardens.

The Czech-born sculptor said she found the job tricky because he’s just such a goddamn hunk:

“It wasn’t an easy one. I personally think he’s quite attractive, and I always say attractive people are hard to sculpt because it’s hard to make them look real.

“He has a Roman nose, his ears are not big and I don’t know why the cartoonists always pull them out the way they do, but for sculpture, they’re very good.”

I too have occasionally lamented that Tony Abbott is too hot.

Tony’s bust will be the first sculpture added to the collection (which was established in the 1940s) to be done by a woman. The completed work is expected to be unveiled later this year, so keep an eye out for that.
