5 Trends From VAMFF You’ll Want In Your Wardrobe This Winter

We’ve teamed up with our pals at Virgin Australia to bring you all the goss and glam from this year’s Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion Festival. Soz in advance for the wardrobe envy.

Melbs has long been known as the style capital of Oz, and man did they bring it for Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion Festival this month. Sure, the street style was off the chain. But what we were really excited to see was what the designers were walking down the runways.
Be honest – like some sort of fashion psychic, you want to be firmly across the fabrics, colours and shapes that’ll be hot property over autumn and winter so you can be the coolest before everyone else, right? Well if you didn’t get to see the runways IRL, don’t stress – we’ve rounded up the top trends so you can get in ASAP and beat all your mates to the sartorial punch.
VELVET

As seen at: David Jones, Bianca Spender.
Velvet made a little bit of an appearance last winter, but get prepped for it to go huge in 2017’s cold months. Your best bet is to get a jewel-toned item, like a top or a dress – although no one’s throwing black velvet out of the game, either.
JEWEL TONES

As seen at: David Jones, Alice McCall, Camilla and Marc.
Ruby, emerald, sapphire… jewel shades will be the go-to this season, especially when it comes to your fancy going-out clothes and smart casj stuff. Something silky in one of these shades, and you can’t go wrong.
PANT SUITS

As seen at: Bassike, David Jones.
Say a huge welcome back to the pant suit. Call it the Hillary Clinton influence, call it whatever – the pant suit is back baby, and the best news is there’s no hard and fast rule on how to rep it. Runways saw everything from sleek, tailored lines to wrap jackets, so whatever your personal style – there’ll be a pant suit that works for you.
PLEATS

As seen at: NEXT, David Jones.
Whether it’s an all-over pleated dress, or a skirt version subtly peeking out from an extra long tunic – those hard-to-iron babies are back, bringing that ~touch of luxury~ big time.
RED

As seen at: Alice McCall, Romance Was Born.
If there’s only one thing you spend your dollarydoos on this A/W, make it something red, for the love of god. It’s 100/10 going to be the colour of the fashion set. Our recs? Go for a red tee, red bag, or red boots. It’s about adding an accent not going head to toe (although the runways loved that look sick, it’s harder to translate into day-to-day).
