2000 People Audition To Be Topshop Brisbane’s Next Top Sales Assistant

As reported last month to the high-pitched squeals of those residing North of the Wall and beyond, all conquering British fashion retail juggernaut Topshop partially responsible for the alarming number of bodies currently buried in the Australian retail graveyardwill be opening its first store in Brisbane by December.

And the locals are excited – and not just to shop there.

The Courier Mail reports today that in excess of 2000 candidates familiar with the term colour-blocking applied to undertake audition-style ‘team casting’ interviews for openings in sales, visual merchandising, management and back of house roles, which took place in Fortitude Valley this week.

Hopefuls came from all over the state – Brisbane, the Gold Coast, the Sunshine Coast and Toowoomba – and were asked to elevate themselves from the drably dressed hoi polloi by describing their personal style in two minutes. A brief at least one candidate took to mean “please recreate your Pinterest account in real life”.

“We have had applicants sing us songs, raps, prepare poems and even mood boards to express their style and passion for the brand,”
Topshop/Topman Australia general manager Gavin Tam told The Courier Mail.

Who brings a mood board to a job interview?

The monolithic three level monument to early 20’s credit card debt located in the old Borders building (R.I.P. books) will house an incomplete (but fairly comprehensive) range of affordable threads including pieces from its mainline Topshop and Topman collections and its slightly edgier Unique and Boutique ranges. The outpost – the largest in Australia – will also provide shoppers with a VIP personal shopping service, involving an enthusiastic young person possessing interesting hair and non-judgmental facial expressions confirming that, yes, you do indeed look great in that.

Topshop Brisbane opens in December.
