17 Y.O. Briefly Escapes From Don Dale To See His Baby Then Hands Himself In

A very wise man once said “When you gotta go, you gotta go.” That man was Jeff Goldblum playing chaos mathematician Dr Ian Malcolm in the film ‘Jurassic Park‘, and he was right: when it is necessary for you to go, you do indeed to have to go. Sometimes (admittedly quite rarely), that presents itself as a need to run to the toilet while under attack by an escaped t-rex, at other times, it presents itself as a need to temporarily break out of jail to make sure your kid is doing OK.
A teenager has handed himself into authorities after breaking out of Darwin‘s Don Dale Youth Detention Centre to check that his baby was OK.
The 17-year-old sustained minor cuts and abrasions after hopping over a razor wire fence at 7:45pm last night. Duty Superintendent Rob Burgoyne said that he became worried after his ex-partner, the child’s mother, arrived at Don Dale:
“There were a few concerns over the baby that they had together. He decided he’d go out and find out exactly what the case was.”
The boy returned at roughly 5 this morning in the company of an older relative after finding that the baby was alright
“It appears he also found out that the baby was OK and was fine and he decided to head back to Don Dale.

“So all’s well that ends well, as they say.”
A police spokesman told the ABC there is a chance he may face a charge of escaping custody.
