Holy shit. The Australian Open has just seen its second major upset, with World No. 1 Andy Murray out in the fourth round.
The Scot was ousted by Germany’s Mischa Zverev in a 7-5, 5-7, 6-2, 6-4 boilover.
Zverev seemed almost in disbelief in his post-match interview. When asked how he did it, the World No. 50 replied: “You should tell me how I did it. There were a few points where I just didn’t know how I was going to do it, but somehow I made it.”
At No. 50, Mischa Zverev is the lowest-ranked player to beat a top seed at a slam since No. 86 Safin d. Roddick at 2004 #AusOpen

When asked if he got nervous when it looked like he might oust the top seeded player, he replied in the negative. “I got excited. The crowd is here, how can you not stay focused?” (Queue massive cheers.)

In his post-match press conference, Murray praised his defeater.
“He served very well… he played a great game,” he said, adding that for him, the match just “wasn’t meant to be.”

Zverev will now play his first ever quarter final, facing either Japan‘s Kei Nishikori or Switzerland‘s Roger Federer, whom the German says is his favourite player.

With Murray and Novak Djokovic out (the World No. 2 was ousted in the second round by the World. No 117), Canada’s Milos Raonic is the highest ranked player left in the tournament.
