American Football isn’t even close to rating on Australian radars – but a new generation of fans could emerge following our first homegrown NFL hero: as former NRL star Jarryd Hayne has made a stunning debut with the San Francisco 49ers overnight.
Hayne’s second carry of the pre-game season saw an effortless 53 yard (48 metres) cruise, in a game against the Houston Texans.

The 49ers ultimately fell to the Texans 10-23. But after the sensational performance led Hayne to trend on both US and Australian twitter, today marks the beginning of what will likely be an illustrious NFL career for the Australian.
And we can only hope pray that one day—ONE DAY—he’ll make the cut on a glorious NFL BLR.
