Sam Stosur Hints At Players Boycotting Margaret Court Arena Next Aus Open

Forget Australia’s ropeable sport-loving public and media figures: Margaret Court Arena might just face a player boycott during next year’s Australian Open, according to Sam Stosur.

Speaking on the ongoing controversy regarding Margaret Court’s much-maligned comments on marriage equality (and a heap of other rank viewpoints), Stosur says that Court’s professional legacy means the name is probably here to stay.

But Stosur used an interview after her Round One victory at the French Open to hint that players could abstain from playing that particular court.

“I think everyone can have their opinion,” Stosur said.
“I don’t agree with it, but I guess we’ll cross that bridge when we all get down to the Australian Open next year and who wants to play on Margaret Court Arena and who doesn’t and we’ll go from there.”
The issue came to light after Aussie pro tennis player Casey Dellacqua called out a letter in The West Australian, in which Court railed against Dellacqua’s relationship with Amanda Judd.

Dellacqua and Stosur are just two players to have publicly addressed the issue. Watch this space to see if more pros voice their opinion before the next Aussie Grand Slam tournament.
