Sam Stosur, Australia Bid Adieu To French Open After Third Round Defeat

Tennis Australia’s Obi Wan Kenobi [only hope], Samantha Stosur’s French Open campaign to one-up last year’s semi-final result has come to an end after a third round loss in three sets to Serbian Jelena Jankovic, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4.

Stosur’s loss signals the end of Australia’s involvement in the singles draw at Roland Garros, following Lleyton Hewitt and Saint Bernard Tomic early round defeats. Stosur failed to translate momentum gained early on in the first set (which she took in just over half an hour) into the successive games, in which saw Jankovic repeatedly broke serve. A third set comeback at 4-4 saw Our Sam give “it everything, but came up [just] short.”
World No. 9 Stosur, a finalist at the Open in 2010, expressed her disappointment in a post-match press conference, saying “It’s kind of hard to take a little bit.
I played two good rounds but now it’s ‘so what,’ you’re out of the event.”
Yes, that’s generally how these things work.
