Rugby World Cup: England May Face Fine After Rejecting Media Post-Match

As if England being pulverised into a meal on home soil by Australia at this morning wasn’t enough, the Rugby World Cup hosts may be penalised for their actions following the match that quashed England’s World Cup run.

England reportedly breached tournament guidelines during the post-match media slot, where ten players from each side are obliged to speak with media. But after suffering a humiliatingloss on the world stage, England only dispatched two players to be interviewed by media – Tom Wood and Richard Wigglesworth – and failed to add more players following requests to do so.

You could say something along the lines of “sore losers”, here, but kicking them while they’re already down, etc.

Tom Wood, who did address media, provided a bleak summary of how England felt following their defeat.

“It was a bad day, a really bad day. I can’t explain how much it hurts. I want to thank everybody for their support over the last few months and apologise that we didn’t have enough. The changing room is in despair.

In one sense I’m really proud because we prepared really hard and committed whole heartedly. But we’ve also been well beaten and knocked out of the World Cup in the pool stage. It’s our World Cup. We’re a proud England team and we’ve failed. There’s no way of sugar coating that.”
According to the Sydney Morning Herald, the fine has not yet been issued, as punishment is up to the discretion of World Rugby.

Meanwhile, a moment of silence for all the Brits now having to deal with gloating Australians now populating their pubs.
