Quentin Tarantino (kinda) Attributes His Affinity With Black Culture to NBA Legend Wilt Chamberlain

NBA Hall of Famer and notorious philanderer Wilt Chamberlain was a lot of things to a lot of people and to Django Unchained director Quentin Tarantino, he was just some dude who dated his mum for a little while. While promoting his revenge western homage, Tarantino was pressed to explain how he became so comfortable with black culture.

Black culture is my culture growing up,” Tarantino explained. “Yeah, it
was almost like a sitcom, the way we lived in the 70’s. Because she was
in her 20’s, she was hot, alright, she was a hot white girl and her
best friend named Jackie was a hot black girl and her other best friend,
Lillian, was a hot Mexican girl. And they lived in a swinging singles
apartment with me
.”

It was the 70’s, and I was living with these three hip singles ladies,
all always going on dates all the time, dating football players and
basketball players…. Oh yeah, my mom, she dated Wilt Chamberlain. She
was one of 1,000
,” Tarantino explained.

The conversation turns to Chamberlain at around the 28.10 mark.

While his skill behind the camera is without question, Tarantinio is not renowned for his athletic prowess. If only Chamberlain had taken the time to shoot a few hoops in the backyard…
