Portugal Are The Euro 2016 Champions After Beating France In Extra Time

Ahh, the Euro 2016. An overall fairly mediocre competition, briefly resuscitated when we all watched England eat shit at the hands of Iceland. That was fun.

But now we have a champion! Portugal have taken it home, defeating hosts France 1-0 in extra time. It’s pretty huge for them, actually – they lost star player Cristiano Ronaldo in the 25th minute after a very painful collision with French midfielder Dimitri Payet but still managed to smash it out.
It’s largely thanks to Éder, who came off the bench to let fly from 25 yard with a surprise strike that pushed Portugal over the edge into European stardom. Fans are kinda shocked – Éder wasn’t much of a star when he played for Swansea, but bloody look at him now. Champ of Europe!

The French side, who put up some sold pressure from the start, are not looking so keen now, as the official Twitter account are more than keen to point out:

For Portugal, this is a long-cooked revenge for their finals loss in 2004 to Greece. That was also a 1-0 game, and Portugal was hosting. There we go, fellas. Vengeance achieved.
Please pray for the pre-prepared France victory bus. It knows now the horror which it approaches.
