Fergie Was Missing From The AFL Grand Final And Folks Weren’t Having It

Today’s AFL Grand Final pre-game entertainment seems to have united all of Australia in asking the same question – who the hell was that mysterious singer on stage with the Black Eyed Peas, and why wasn’t she Fergie?

Those who don’t follow the Black Eyed Peas’ career – and honestly, I count myself among that number – may not have been aware, but the singer actually departed the group back in February, leaving a Fergie-sized hole where she once was.

Will.i.amapl.de.ap and Taboo, who performed their hits ‘Let’s Get It Started‘, ‘Big Love’, ‘Where Is The Love?‘ and ‘I Gotta Feeling‘ as part of the warm-up act, were joined by singer Jessica Reynoso to take care of the female parts.

Reynoso was a finalist on ‘Voice Of The Phillipines‘, although it’s fair to say that, to most of Australia, she will henceforth be known as Not-Fergie. It’s obligatory that an article like this should include a smattering of Tweets on the subject, so here you go, I guess:

There were also a few music historians who smugly pointed out that Fergie actually joined the band well after its formation in the mid-90s so this was a more authentic Black Eyed Peas experience, and yeah, look, we get that, ten points to Gryffindor, etc etc, but she was a very high-profile part of the group for a long time, and people probably did miss her, and also, why are we even arguing about the Black Eyed Peas in the first place? God, I’m so tired.
