Cricketer Left Stumped After Attempts To Hit On Reporter Fail Miserably

We have a deep, timeless love for the sport of cricket and its various holds on Australian culture – we frothed over this marvellous tribute to Richie Benaud that went down today, for example – but we find ourselves longing to post about the gentleman’s game a bit more.
Emphasis on ‘gentleman’. Last time we checked, cracking on to a reporter while she’s just doing her job – i.e, interviewing you – isn’t really that gentlemanly.

Still, the nation bore witness to Melbourne Renegades batsman Chris Gayle attempts to crack on to Ten’s reporter Mel McLaughlin tonight. After implying he’d gotten out just to see her eyes and have a chat, “don’t blush, baby” were the real words that came out of his mouth.

The final result for the West Indian player can be summed up thusly:

Expectation:

Reality:

McLaughlin responded to the unprovoked come-on damn-near stoically, and her v. professional response to the sitch made it all look a far sight worse for the guy. Damn, when you even have Australians agreeing with Andrew Flintoff, you know you stepped out of your crease.

FWIW, the Renegades chased down the Hobart Hurricanes’ 5/140 to end with 5/144. Gayle definitely took the L tonight, though.

Watch the polar opposites of professionalism on display below:
