Australian Test Batsman Phillip Hughes Has Sadly Passed Away

In breaking, and unfathomably tragic, news, Cricket Australia has confirmed that Australian Test batsman Phillip Hughes has died as a result of injuries sustained during a South Australia vs New South Wales Sheffield Shield match on Tuesday. He was 25.

Hughes was accidentally struck on the head below the line of his helmet after misjudging a routine short pitched delivery from Sean Abbott. He collapsed shortly thereafter.
Hughes had been in an induced coma at Sydney’s St Vincent’s Hospital following emergency surgery to alleviate pressure on his brain. Unfortunately, despite the rapid and elite efforts of medical personnel, Hughes passed away this afternoon.
Our thoughts and hearts go out to his friends, family, and the broader Australian cricket community in this absolutely tragic time.
RIP, Phillip Hughes.
