Aussie Sisters Cate & Bronte Campbell Win Relay Gold, Set Record Time

Australian sisters Cate and Bronte Campbell have picked up our second gold medal in Rio, taking out the 4 x 100 metre women’s freestyle alongside teammates Emma McKeon and Brittany Elmslie
The four also managed to set a world record time of 3.30.65 for the race, beating the previous world record of 3.33.15 set by a team of Brittany Elmslie, Cate Cambell, Alicia Coutts and Melanie Schlanger at the London 2012 Olympics.
The win capped off a great night in the pool in Rio, that also saw 20-year-old Australian Mack Horton claim a gold medal in the men’s 400 metre freestyle.
This is the first time since Athens 2004 when Australia has won two gold medals on opening night – that year, Ian Thorpe took out the men’s 400m freestyle, while Jodie Henry and the 4 x 100 freestyle relay team also claimed victory in their event.
