Look I’m going to tell you right now that I know absolutely nothing about sports. That being said, I’m well aware that Ash Barty became “OUR” Ash Barty during the Australian Open because she won a lot of shit, namely beating Maria Sharapova and ending up in the quarter finals. Maybe there was something about the Barty Army but maybe I made that up in my head. Regardless, she’s a badass Aussie tennis player and we all love her.
So basically I knew enough to know that OUR Ash cracking the top 10 for tennis players in the WORLD was a big, big big big deal. Barty cemented her place after defeating Petra Kvitova in the Miami Open quarter finals – a huge mood given losing to Kvitova at the Australian Open booted her out of the semi’s. I think I am saying all this terminology right but guys, I’m not a sports person OK and I’m the only writer rn so DEAL WITH IT.

22-year-old Ash is now only the second Aussie to crack the top 10 in a decade, with Sam Stosur being the other legend. Of the past 15 years, she’s only joined by Lleyton Hewitt and Alicia Molik – so yes, this is a huge deal.
Ash will face Anett Kontaveit in the semi-finals, where hopefully she’s SMASH it on court and climb even higher in the ranks. But even if she loses, who cares! Fucken top 10, babeeeey!
