There’s A Symbolic Hidden Detail In Ash Barty’s Wimbledon Dress And It’s Literally So Sweet

Ash Barty

As Aussie tennis legend, Ash Barty, gears up to play the Wimbledon finals tonight we thought we’d point out the cute little detail in the dress she’s been wearing throughout her 2021 Wimbledon campaign.

The scallop dress design is a tribute to fellow Indigenous Australian Evonne Goolagong-Cawley, to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the tennis star’s first Wimbledon title. What’s even more spooky is that Barty is the first Aussie to make a Wimbledon final since Goolagong-Cawley. It’s an omen, guys!

“It’s a really special anniversary for a lot of Australians, but for Indigenous Australians in particular,” Barty said.

“I think this is a really special one. For me, to be able to wear an outfit inspired by Evonne’s iconic scallop dress is really amazing.

“I wanted to make sure she was OK with it.

“Before we had put in the process of creating my version of her iconic dress, I wanted to make sure she was OK. Called her and asked her.

“She was really excited.”

Ash Barty, the current world number one, will be facing Czech player and world number 13, Karolína Plíšková in the final.

“Wimbledon for me has been an amazing place of learning,” Barty told reporters on Friday.

“Probably 2018, 2019 was some of my toughest weeks playing. To come away with our losses in those two tournaments, I learned a hell of a lot from those two times.”

So how do you watch the big game tonight?

The final will be going down at 2pm in Wimbledon, which is 11pm AEST, 10.30pm ACST and 9pm AWST for those of us in Western Australia.
