This Woman Quit Her Job To Search For Her Missing Puppy, So Crown Her Dog Mum Of The Year

An American woman has quit her job to go on a two-month search for her missing dog and honestly, I am obsessed.

If you needed a heart-warming story to finish the week, this is for you.

Carole King (not the singer) has won the award for dog mum of the year in my books after her seven-year-old border collie, Katie went missing while they were on holidays. Carole and her husband Verne were on holidays in Montana’s Glacier National Park back in July when their dog ran away while they were out for dinner.

Obviously, Carole and Verne checked their hotel room and the surrounding area when they returned, but couldn’t find poor Katie. They’re pretty sure the border collie somehow unlatched the door during a thunderstorm and escaped.

Despite their search efforts, Katie could not be found, which prompted Carole to go to more extreme measures. After her employer refused to give her compassionate leave to search for Katie, Carole quit her job and continued on her searching with her husband.

Carole grabbed manure from their farm to attract the dog and Verne invested in night-vision goggles for a very spy-kids-esque rescue mission. This couple were ready to find their dog, damn it.

Thankfully, this story has a happy ending because Caroles tireless efforts resulted in her being reunited with her beloved pooch after a whopping 57 days of searching. Can we all please have a collective “aww”?

1, 2, 3. “AWWWWWWW.”

“I just bear-hugged her, I wasn’t going to let her go,” Carole said of the moment she was reunited with Katie. “Tears were flying, we were screaming, everybody is high-fiving, hugging each other. People are stopping in their vehicles, getting out and hugging us. I think the whole neighbourhood knew that we found her.”

Katie the border collie was taken to the vet after being reunited with her family. Despite being severely dehydrated and 5kg lighter, she came home relatively unharmed.

“I never gave up. I never lost hope,” King told press. “I think what I got out of this was the kindness of strangers.”
