Spare ten seconds to watch this prophetic piece of sketch comedy performed the night before the Federal Election took place. It features then Opposition Leader/current Prime Minister Tony Abbott looking directly into a camera, crossing his fingers behind his back and saying the following: “no cuts to education, no cuts to health, no change to pensions, no change to the GST and no cuts to the ABC or SBS.”
The punchline could only be heard a few months later when the first federal budget under his leadership featured cuts of $43.5 million to the ABC and SBS over the next four years and a whopping $80 billion to health and education over the next decade.
