WATCH: ‘The Weekly’ Double Disses Malcolm Turnbull’s Double Dissolution

When the planets align, Charlie Pickering and The Weekly are totally capable of delivering some seriously hot takes. Fortunately for him, our solar system consists of Malcolm Turnbull, an increasingly disaffected populace, and a looming election. And oh boy, you better believe they’re all in a bloody row.

Tonight’s target was, obviously, the newly-announced threat of a double dissolution. While focussing on that, the show offered another summation of Turnbull’s ideological sacrifices in favour of retaining power.

When that concept was broached by Pickering a few weeks back in regards to the same-sex marriage plebiscite, he said for Turnbull “to fulfill his dreams, he had to sign away his voice. Just like the Little Mermaid.
Fortunately for lovers of snark directed at a leader we all secretly hoped would have been more effective, Pickering backed that burn up. His changeability was skewered once again, with Pickering proclaiming “Malcolm Turnbull will not be moved.”
“He is a rock. A rock, with tiny little wheels. On a slope. Able to go at any given time.”
Really, the piece is about how odd it is for Turnbull to cling to the ABCC as a possible election trigger, and how transparently he’s given up his personal views in favour of staying in power, but it also features a surprisingly competent crane impersonation. So, there’s that.

Political commentary wrapped up in make-believe construction sites? Shit yeah. Have a gander below:
