Labor Sledges An “Emasculated” ScoMo Over Turnbull’s Early Budget Call

Welp. What was looming as something of a slow news day got real interesting really bloody quickly when Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull chucked a two-flag speech earlier today to announce he was bringing the Federal Budget forward.

Turnbull’s announcement that the Budget date would be moved up to May 3rd – the first time the budget has been brought forward since Country Member (yeah, we remember) and then-Federal Treasurer Arthur Fadden did it back in 1952. The announcement also paves the way for a double dissolution election, which could take place as early as July 2nd.
Only problem is that Turnbull’s mic drop of an announcement apparently wasn’t run past his Treasurer, Scott Morrison.
No more than an hour before Turnbull decided to blow the doors of the political game wide open, Morrison apparently told media he was planning for a budget to be delivered on May 10th – a full week after Turnbull’s revised date.

The Labor party, who do not want to live in a world where dick and fart jokes aren’t funny (can’t blame ’em, TBH), leapt on this like it was February 29th all over again.

Shadow Treasurer Chris Bowen issued a suspiciously quick media release that lashed the Turnbull Government over the decision, claiming it as nothing more than politics.
And, going even further, Bowen stated that in undercutting Morrison, Turnbull had “emasculated” him.

Seriously, at some point Canberra needs to stop beating around the bush and admit that 95% of male politicians’ time is spent speculating on who is sporting the heftiest ceremonial mace.
