Malcolm Turnbull Has Called A Double Dissolution Election For July 2

Earlier this afternoon, Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull met with Governor-General Peter Cosgrove and asked him to dissolve the parliament, effective tomorrow. In a press conference at 2.30, he called a double dissolution election for July 2
He told reporters in Canberra: “If we embrace this future with confidence and optimism, then we will succeed as we have never succeeded before,” adding that this is the “most exiting time to be an Australian.”

This means all Senate seats will be up for grabs, and depending on how the next couple of months go, our nation might get to have its sixth leadership change in ten years. What a fun time to be an Australian.
