WATCH: QLD Now Has A Playground Spun From 56km Of Sticky Tape

Art. What is it? And how much tape does it need?
While we haven’t the faintest idea and suspect that an answer would maybe defeat the purpose, we will go out on a limb and say “56,000 metres of tape” should about do it.
This is good news for Ipswich Art Gallery, which is now home to a gargantuan, interactive playground of tape called ‘TapeScape‘ thanks to US artist Eric Lennartson. Which also makes it very bad news for Brisbane, a stone’s throw east of Ipswich and naturally the city’s most hated rival.
Lennartson, who launched the installation for the first time in Minnesota in 2011, is making his southern hemisphere debut after touring TapeScape across the northern hemisphere for the past five years.
He spent the last two weeks knocking it together with some local volunteers, and describes the two-story tape-stry (YES!) as a labour of love:

“It’s kind of like yoga or other things where you have to hold the position for a really long time and stretch back and forth and also not trip, because you have to stretch and go around the scaffolding.”

“Kids and adults don’t have any idea what to expect.”

“The first few steps in, they are really apprehensive and they take it easy, but after a while they are jumping and sliding and having a great time.”
The exhibit is open until February 2017, although seeing it will unfortunately require you to go to Ipswich yes I am a Brisbanite sue me.
