Watch: Getup’s “Bad Designs: Manus Island”

Community advocacy organisation Getup! has released Bad Designs: Manus Island, a response to the video released by Immigration Minister Tony Burke, which spruiks the Government’s Papua New Guinea detention solution. Getup’s video is a parody of renovation show Grand Designs, with a spot-on Kevin McCloud impersonator extolling the virtues of Kevin’s “turn of the millennium detention centre”, such as “Thick, insualted walls to buffer the sound of self-harm and abuse” and “A living area where guests can dream of being somewhere else, as they are bathed in the natural light and rain from the idiosyncratic holes in the ceiling”. Protest at it’s cleverest.

From the Getup website: “Our new video might be funny, but GetUp members are serious about
exposing the conditions inside the Manus Island detention centre.
