Uber Driver Needs A Nap & Asks Rider To Drive, Wakes Up In Police Chase

An Uber driver in the United States who asked his passenger to take the wheel while he had a nap woke up to find himself in a high speed police chase, which he really should have seen coming, tbqh.

Corey Robinson, 43, was hired by Juan R. Carlos, 20, last Saturday night / early Sunday morning to drive him nearly 300 miles (482km) from Philadelphia to Herkimer, NY.

During the trip he became tired and asked Carlos to drive while he copped a little shut-eye. When he woke up, he asked Carlos why the were driving so fast, and got the reply: the police are chasing us.

According to State Police, the 2016 Hyundai Sonata sped past them at the Kirkwood, NY point of Interstate 81 at 5:35am going 86 miles per hour, which translated into metrics for the entire rest of the world is a casual ONE HUNDRED AND THIRTY EIGHT KILOMETRES PER HOUR.

They pursued the car but eventually lost sight of it, only finding it after it had crashed into a guard rail in Colesville, NY. Google Maps tells us that is a ’20 minute drive’ away, but in this case was probably achieved in four minutes flat.

In his defence, Robinson had demanded that his passenger-driver pull over, and clearly unsuccessfully.

Both men were taken to hospital and treated for minor injuries, before being taken into custody. Among several other traffic violations, Carlos was charged with unlawfully fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle in the third degree and driving without a licence.

Robinson was released without charge. And both men were banned from using Uber.
