HAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHHAHA.
A prominent Christian commentator’s transphobic tweet has spectacularly backfired, in one of those ‘warm the cockles of your cold, dead heart’ kinda ways.
ICYMI, Virginia yesterday elected the first openly transgender state legislator in the United States, beating the deeply bigoted Republican incumbent who had literally written the anti-trans bathroom laws to boot.
Danica Roem made history. She also sings in a thrash metal band, which is totally irrelevant to this story but is extremely cool nonetheless.
Anyway, back to our prominent Christian, Mr. Andrew T. Walker, whose website says he “serves as the Director of Policy Studies for the Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention, the denomination’s entity tasked with equipping Christians and local churches to address ethical issues facing society and the church,” but which I cannot make head or tail of.
Following Roem’s election, he tweeted this:

And the replies, my friends? The replies are wonderful.

My wife and I are preparing by loving our unborn child before we even know the gender. I suggest you do the same.

I’m a Jewish parent. I’ve already prepared my son by teaching him not to be a narrow-minded hate-filled bigot.

I’m no Christian but some of our text is shared scripture. So I’d begin by teaching my children to love thy neighbor as thyself. You should probably start there. In every situation. With every person.

Christian parent here. We’re celebrating. We’re preparing our son to embrace difference, not fear or discriminate against it.

“There are people who are different than you are, but they deserve dignity and respect just like you do.” IT’S NOT HARD.

My conservative Christian mom supports Trans rights. Stop using God to promote your lack of understanding.

Teach them that in Matthew 19:12 Jesus explicitly addresses those who have surgically modified their gender and welcomes them into the kingdom of heaven.

I’m a Christian minister and a parent and I think we might have a little celebratory dance party… and maybe cake too. Hooray!!

Check out the ratio on that thing. As we’re writing this, the original tweet has gotten 460 retweets, 1,400 faves, and a whopping 8,800 replies, which usually means the person has tweeted something really, really, reeaaaally dumb.
Go back and shove your egg head back into the deeply bigoted hole from whence you came, Andrew T. Walker.
