Thousands of Australians found themselves without sweet, sweet internet overnight, after heat shut down systems at a major internet service provider in Perth.
The Sydney Morning Herald report that yesterday afternoon, “record-breaking temperatures” forced iiNet to shut down some of its servers, affecting internet service around the country.
Several thousand users in Western Australia, NSW, Victoria and South Australia found themselves affected, with outages lasting up to six and a half hours.
We’ve resolved the heat impact in our data centre, and services are back online. Thanks once again for your patience.

Although iiNet have said that “redundancy plans ensured over 98 per cent of customers remained unaffected”, many had trouble reconnecting to the internet after the outage was fixed.
On the list of the most ‘Strayan things to ever happen, internet getting knocked out because of the awful bloody heat ranks pretty highly.
