The Ivy Sacks Contractor For Disrupting ANZAC Day Dawn Service With Loud Music

A record 30,000 people attended the Gallipoli centenary ANZAC Day dawn service held in Martin Place this morning, with the Premier Mike Baird, ALP deputy leader Tanya Plibersek, Governor General of NSW David Hurley and dignitaries from New Zealand and Turkey also in attendance.

The morning’s service was reportedly disrupted “at least five times” from loud music coming from the nearby Ivy nightclub, with some attendees confirming the “really loud” music that played intermittently throughout the service, and during the minute’s silence, according to Fairfax.

The disruptions have been addressed by a spokesperson for Merivale group, owner of the Ivy, who claimed the noise disturbance was from a contractor conducting “unauthorised sound testing for an event later today“.

The spokesperson also confirmed that the contractor was “immediately terminated“, and apologised for the incident, saying, “We are mortified and deeply upset about noise reports during the dawn service and apologise unreservedly to those in attendance for any disturbance.”

The Ivy is holding an “ANZAC Day at Merivale” event today according to the club’s Facebook page.
