Yesterday, Ellen Page did something worthy of applause and publically came out as gay in front of the Human Rights Campaign and their THRIVE conference.
Page delivered an eloquent speech, in which she highlighted many problems facing the LGBT youth community. She also managed to show everyone who didn’t think she was awesome already, just how awesome she really is.
Since delivering the speech Twitter has been buzzing with the news, and the response has been overwhelming positive. In particular, many young members of the entertainment industry have rallied around her in what is a great sign for the future and hopefully the LGBT community as a whole.
Mad mad mad mad mad mad crazy love and praise for @EllenPage today. Congrats to you, you light, talent, and beauty.

While it is a shame that someone being of a certain sexual orientation is still newsworthy, the support shown is definitely promising for future generations and what approach they will take towards human rights abuses. It was probably Page herself who said it best.
“Every single one of you is here for the same reason. You’re here because you’ve adopted as a core motivation the simple fact that this world would be a whole lot better if we just made an effort to be less horrible to one another.”
Bravo, Ellen Page.
