Tavi, Junot Diaz, The Moth headline Melbourne Writers Fest Program

A literary star-studded line up has been announced for this year’s Melbourne Writers Festival, featuring the likes of Tavi, Laurent Binet, Junot Diaz, The Moth and even the mayor of London-town Boris Johnson.

Seventeen-year-old blogger, publishing entrepreneur and sartorial educator, Tavi Gevinson will make us all feel inadequate inspired when she takes us through the world through her eyes. From bedroom blogger to founder and editor-in-chief of Rookie Magazine, this gal is one of the most influential young women in the digital realm – and she hasn’t even graduated high school yet!

Direct from New York, the art of storytelling is taken to new heights with legendary not-for-profit collective The Moth who will be performing exclusively at the festival.

Hosted by Ophira Eisenberg, our Aussie gal Magda Szubanski will take to the stage sharing true stories based on courage – maybe she’ll tell us what it’s really like to be upstaged by a pig.

Moving across the ditch, Mayor of London Boris Johnson will deliver the Opening Night Keynote address and will spend a night chatting all things politics with Ms Norbury Annabel Crabb.

Pulitzer Prize winner Junot Díaz will speak about the ability and
the moral right, of literature to influence politics, while French good looking guy writer Laurent Binet will discuss his latest work on the French presidential campaign.

Locals joining the bill include the legendary Seaman Dan, the probably-will-be-hungover The Bedroom Philosopher, the fabulously inappropriate Benjamin Law and man-who-needs-no-introduction Father Bob Macguire.

The Melbourne Writer’s Festival runs from 22 August to 1 September. Tickets and more info can be found at www.mwf.com.au.
