Tame Impala Ain’t Impressed With Plagiarism Claims, Respond On Instagram

Kevin Parker, enigmatic frontman of Aussie legends Tame Impala, was rather unimpressed recently to find this extremely well-punctuated email in his inbox:

Mr. Parker, my name is Samm Culley From Skull Snaps On Your Song Eventually you are using our drum sample from It’s  A New Day you have not cleared this sample with us our musicologist says it is indeed our sample if we don’t hear from you in three days we will file the necessary papers in court against you and the record company.

Regards, Samm Culley
Skull Snaps
Now, this email obviously looks like it was written by a drunk toddler, so it’s no wonder that Parker decided to respond by posting the ridiculous email on Instagram. He rejected the accusation that the drum sample was taken from Skull Snaps, encouraged Sam Culley to ‘fire his musicologist’, but also questioning whether the email was a hoax.
Now, according to Pitchfork, the message definitely isn’t a hoax, and Culley definitely sent the email. It’s also been confirmed by them that ‘It’s A New Day’ has been sampled countless times, including by Ol’ Dirty Bastard, Common, and many others – so it’s no wonder that Culley’s a lil’ tender on the issue.
For brevity’s sake, here is both ‘Eventually’ by Tame Impala, and ‘It’s A New Day’ by Skull Snaps:
